Transport Advice & Consultancy Case Study

Electricity supply

London Underground has, for reasons of history, a complex power supply network comprising a number of distribution systems overlaid upon each other over the years. This is partly a consequence of the way it has developed over the last century and partly because of the onerous safety requirements peculiar to underground railways. After a number of incidents it was realized that there was no readily accessible description of the present system that set out in non-technical terms how everything worked and how each element impacted on the other features of the supply network.

FDAL was commissioned to review the technical information available and write a non-technical description of the whole thing. The work was delivered in three months and is now posted on the London Underground intranet so it is readily accessible.
