Verification of lighting designs

Network Rail had inherited a wide range of station platform lighting installations of varying age and quality. It was thought that many did not comply with Railway Group Standards, and an assessment was required to evaluate the scale of the problem. Fifth Dimension Associates Ltd. (FDAL) devised a method for site measurement of platform lighting, including the difficult vertical illuminance parameter. With our railway expertise, we knew that carrying out surveys close to the platform edge was a problem - so we devised a safe method of remote measurement which complied with Green Zone working.
